Iowa Foster and Adoptive Parents Association

The Iowa Foster & Adoptive Parents Association is a volunteer grass-roots organization representing the interests of Iowa's foster and adoptive families. The organization originated in the early 1970's through the efforts of the local foster parent support groups in Sioux City, Des Moines, and Dubuque. IFAPA works to recruit and retain quality foster and adoptive families by promoting support, training and public awareness in conjunction with other public and private organizations. IFAPA advocates for foster and adopted children and families. Membership is free to foster and adoptive families.

  • News and Views of Iowa (quarterly newsletter)
  • Legislative Bulletin (provided bi-weekly during Iowa legislative session)
  • Foster Parent Liaison Program
  • F.A.S.T. Program (peer support to foster parents facing allegations of abuse)
  • Annual state training conference
  • Stipends to foster and adoptive parent support groups
  • Registration scholarships to national conferences
  • Foster Parent Handbook updates
  • Special events in support of foster care and adoption
  • Participation in DHS program and policy development affecting foster care and adoption
