Blowing Bubbles May Help

A technique similar to the one mothers use to cope with labor pain may help children cope with the pain of shots, according to a recent study from Ohio State University.

Kids between 4 and 7 who were being immunized were told to "blow and blow and blow" --as if they were blowing bubbles---to help blow their pain away. The kids who did blow out air regularly perceived significantly less pain than children who weren't taught the technique, which acts as a distraction and was pioneered with cancer patients undergoing painful therapy.
